~ Mom's Bday. 3rd day of Work ~

Today is my mom's bday! haha. happy bday mom. celebrated at home this evening with the family. ermm.. ordered kfc over the fone. lol. although like i can eat kfc anytime outside, this is one of the rare times we actually eat kfc tgt at home. or any other form of fastfood delivery. hmmmm. and ofcourse there was cake. waha. bought from this shop in taka de. forgot wads the name liao. it was opposite the brownies place and bakerz inn de. took over the space haaigen daz used to occupy.

the cake was quite nice leh. had a sort of biscuity center which gave the whole cake a very nice chewable feel. the texture of the chocolate was very nice too. not too thick and heavy, but sweet enough. hehehe. actually i took photos but im too lazy to upload...... lol.

now on to the 2nd part of the title. haha.

3rd day of work??? tot work for so long liao. lol. actually i already finished my time at tong building liao. i asked not to stay for too long from the start cos i wanted to try out diff jobs in diff environments so that i can gain more exposure and get a broader perspective of life.

WOW. im making myself sound so chim. haha. if u wanna say it the nasty way, i just cant stay committed la. haha. so earlier this monday was my first day on my 2nd job. only a weekend kiap in between to buffer. hah. im only doing this job till CNY.

well i really wanted to have change of environment buden... end up i still wake up arnd the same time, take the same bus 14 to arnd the same place. i go to work my co-workers' name all start with the same letter. (used to be jeremy, julie and jeslyn. Now is julien, jordon and jith) best of all, the thumbdrive which my boss uses is the same spidermanIII thumbdrive which was given as freebie when the movie was screened. it even has the same bent look(the original bent look occured due to a minor accident on my part. haha) Heres the icing on the cake, my old frens back from tong are all gonna move by this friday to the building i am in now cos its basically the building where they consolidate all the departments... so... WOW. im gonna start seeing the same ppl too. haha.

well i just listed all the similarities between my current work environment and the previous one, there are ofcourse differences.

it mainly concerns the boss im currently under. now this guy, he is very knowledgeable and he knows a ton of stuff about the corporate world, the media, and well basically things that revolve arnd the health and financial sectors. ohhh i forgot to mention. im actually under the corporate communications department of the company i work for. used to be in admin.

so my boss extended to me an invitation to work full time in the department much like a fully paid internship where i will be doing a project in 4 months. sounds reeaaally promising eh. but im gonna pass.

firstly, like i said before i wanted to experience the different sides of life and broaden my perspectives. so i dun wanna stay too long on the same job NOW regardless of the prospectives it may hold.

secondly, that guy. well, lets just say he is quite the angry person. to his staff at least. although i dun come under direct fire, the 3 Js in the office get screwed EVERYDAY. and the way he scolds, minimal vulgarities are used but his words are very degrading to the person's self confidence. cos when he scolds, and when he is really mad. the words are not targeted at the problem(FOR EXAMPLE:this problem is really frustrating. its a stupid mistake), rather they are targeted at the person(EXAMPLE: YOU are really making me mad. Are you stupid or smth?)

To quote a real scene which happened. Jordon (he seems to be the one who comes under fire the most), boo-boo-ed again and he was getting screwed so this question was posted to him by the boss:

"you tell me la jordon, are you reliable anot?"

By asking this sort of question, you give your target 2 options.

1:agree with this rhetorical question and degrade oneself by saying out "no. i am not reliable"

2:disagree and risk angering you more.

jordan chose to keep quiet. a wise choice, if used on most poeple. but not THIS GUY. he will go as far as to

"eh. dun just keep quiet. you are keeping quiet becos u disagree with me right??"
and it goes on...

the thing abt the boss is that, it takes VERY little to actually blow his fuse. small small things like putting the fan on his table so that it has more leverage to circulate the air and everyone gets some wind. he feels that by putting the fan on his table, ppl are not respecting him. wow.

so the tension in office as you can imagine is pretty darn high. its like you dunoe what little/trivial thing you do next will actually set of a whole row of explosives.(much like working in a fireworks factory)

i mean i understand that in the sector we work in, where information come and go at extreme speeds, errors definitely significant. however, this huge task also means that errors have higher chances of occurring no? and if u were to put ppl under such stress and constant value degradation, wouldn Murphy just appear more frequently?
(not eddie murphy, but rather murphy from Murphy's Law)

the thing is, so far i have not been the target of any scolding. maybe cos im just new and theres some "noob protection scheme" much like those of popular online RPG games. but when you work in an environment like this... you cant help but wonder... "shit. when is it gonna be my turn"

for those of you still abit clueless as to how bad the situation is.

wow players: imagine ur work is to play world of warcraft.(pretty darn good job eh) but jeremy's ur boss. hahaha

tv addicts: watch hell's kitchen.

wow. i actually spent so much time writing crap on my workplace in contrast to my mom's bday. wth man. sorry mom. as u can see... its really quite a stressful place to be in. i tink the guys are driven to the ends of their tether every single day. i finally figured out why they all wear ties in that place. [IN CASE OF EMERGENCY] *shakes head* sigh. heng im going off in 2 weeks time. although i know there is much i can learn from this job... 2 weeks cant come fast enough.. hope the rest of them find better prospectives soon... haha.
